Encryption Procedure

Purpose

The document provides information on how to properly secure and encrypt confidential data using TrueCrypt software. The software ensures that data at rest is stored in a secured fashion and only authorized individuals can access it.

Scope

The procedure outline in this document applies to software installed on Microsoft Windows 32 or 64-bit operating system.

Procedure

  1. Double-click the TrueCrypt Setup .exe installation file,
  2. Read the license terms and check the I Accept the license terms box and click Next,
  3. Ensure Install is selected and click Next,
  4. At the Setup Options screen select the location for the TrueCrypt installation program files, C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\ is the required installation path. The following options must be selected:
    • Install for all users
    • Add TrueCypt to Startm Menu
    • Add Truecrypt icon to desktop
    • Associate the .tc files extension with TrueCrypt
    • Create System Restore point
    • Click Install,
  5. Click OK at the TrueCyrpt has been successfully install screen,
  6. Click Finish,(NOTE) If prompt to read the Beginner’s Tutorial in the TrueCrypt User Guide, click No,
  7. Once the program has been successfully installed go to the Desktop and double-click TrueCrypt icon,
  8. Click Create Volume,
  9. Select Create an encrypted File Container and click Next,
  10. Select Standard TrueCrypt volume and click Next,
  11. Click Select File… and select the C:\ location, type the file name SecureVolume and click Save,
  12. Ensure Never save history is selected and click Next,
  13. Select AES for Encryption Algorithm and RIPEMD-160 for Hash Algorithim and click Next,
  14. Select desired size and click Next,
  15. Type desired password twice (must be at least 8 characters long) and ensure Use keyfiles and Display password are unchecked, click Next,
  16. Select the desired options for Filesystem and Cluster and click Format,
  17. Click OK,
  18. Click Exit,
  19. On the main TrueCrypt screen, highlight the desired drive letter and click Select File..,
  20. Navigate to the file location specified in Step 11, select it and click Open
  21. Click Mount,
  22. Enter password specified in Step 15, ensure the following options are un checked:
    1. Cache Password and keyfiles in memory
    2. Display password
    3. Use keyfiles
    4. Click OK,
  23. Volume information will not be displayed on the TrueCrypt window, click
  24. Make sure to add a step just explaining files should be moved into the volume and that it can be unmounted

Users are unable to open url links in Outlook 2007/2010 and get the following error message: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

Fix

  1. On Windows 7 and Windows 8, click the Start button, type Regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor. On Windows XP, click Start > Run and then type Regedit in the Open box.
  2. The Registry Editor will open, and you browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html. Verify that the Default value of this key is htmlfile.
  3. If the Default value is ChromeHTML or FireFoxHTML (depending on which browser you have installed), right click it and select Modify…
  4. Change the Default value to htmlfile.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for .htm and .shtml keys.
  6. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Honeywell Gas Valve on a Water Heater

Steps to reset Honeywell Gas Valve on a Water Heater that is flashing 4 times and indicating Temperature Exceeded:

1. Turn the control off and unplug the thermocouple wire
2. Remove the front panel and unplug the cable connected to the circuit board
3. Let it sit around for 10 mins
4. Put everything back in including the panel
5. Light pilot and hold the temperature control button down for 40 some seconds
6. Turn temp control all the way up to VERY HOT
7. Wait 10 seconds
8. Turn the temp control to HOT
9. Wait 10 seconds
10. Turn the temp control to PILOT
11. Wait 10 seconds
12. Turn the temp control to HOT
13. If you are lucky, the burner will kick in

Use these instructions at your own risk.

Reporting stopped on Cisco WSA

Reporting stopped working after AsyncOS upgrade on the WSA.

Solution:

1. Re-start reporting process from the WSA CLI (see below):

{WSA Hostname}> diagnostic
Choose the operation you want to perform:
- NET - Network Diagnostic Utility.
- PROXY - Proxy Debugging Utility.
- REPORTING - Reporting Utilities.
{WSA Hostname}> reporting

The reporting system is currently enabled.

Choose the operation you want to perform:
- DELETEDB - Reinitialize the reporting database.
- DISABLE - Disable the reporting system.
{WSA Hostname}> disable
Disabling reporting......
The reporting system is currently disabled.
Wait for 60 seconds
Choose the operation you want to perform:
- DELETEDB - Reinitialize the reporting database.
- ENABLE - Enable the reporting system.
{WSA Hostname}> enable
Reporting enabled.
The reporting system is currently enabled

2. If the above does not recover Reporting, then schedule a reboot of the WSA via CLI command ‘reboot’

Saving Cisco Config Automatically

To archive Cisco configuration with every wr mem to a tftp server issue the following command:

archive
 path tftp://x.x.x.x/{folder}
 write memory

Error message:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

Solution:

  1. Run regedit
  2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html Verify that the Default value of this key is htmlfile if that is not to case change it to htmlfile
  3. Repeat this steps for key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm and key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.shtml 

%DOT11-7-AUTH_FAILED: – Cisco WiFi

If you ever get a %DOT11-7-AUTH_FAILED: Station <MAC ADDRESS> Authentication failed  without any apparent reason.

One of the possible solutions  is to increase the WPA handshake timeout process as as follows:

Solution:

Go into the interface Dot11Radio0

enter command: dot11 wpa handshake timeout 500
